20 Things Scripture Says About the Name of YHWH (God's name) | Land of Honey

Scripture has a lot of significant things to say about the name of YHWH. That is surprising to many of us, as that name is just not spoken much in Christian circles. You don't hear much about YHWH at church or even in Bible college. While those places often use the phrase, "the name of the Lord," they are selling themselves very short if they don't investigate what that name is.

The Hebrew spelling of his name is yod-hey-waw-hey, which we transliterate into their nearest English equivalents to give us YHWH. Lord is not a correct transliteration, and there is nothing in the Bible that suggests that swapping out 'YHWH' for any other name or title is acceptable. But unfortunately the name of YHWH has been removed from modern Bibles more than 7,000 times! We are not to change Scripture, and it's time to turn back to what YHWH has told us. When we look at the verses below we can see how much we're missing out on if we don't use the name of YHWH.

20 Things Scripture Says About the Name of YHWH:

"You shall not bring the name of YHWH your God to vain emptiness." -Exodus 20:7
The name of YHWH is mentioned even in the ten commandments, and it's not telling us not to use it. If we take a look at the context and root words we see that we are actually exhorted not to forget or stop using this name!

"Make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of YHWH, Yahusha, and the Holy Spirit." -Matthew 28:19
This verse is a favorite for mission trips, but we often leave out the correct name that people are supposed to be baptized in. This verse tells us that baptism should be in the name of YHWH, not some sort of stand-in title that represents what his name is.

"Other nations shall walk in the ways of their gods, but we shall walk in the name of YHWH our God forever." -Micah 4:5
This verse makes a distinction between the gods of others faiths, and the Living God YHWH. How can others see this distinction if we don't use his name?

"My people shall know my name." -Isaiah 52:6
The Creator wants people to know his true name! As believers, it's important that our ways and actions reflect what Scripture says about us.

"Sing praises and praise the holy name of YHWH." -Psalm 30:4

"I will sing praises to the name of YHWH." -2 Samuel 22:50
Scripture tells us that our praise songs aren't to be directed at God, the Lord, our Father, Adonai, or whatever else but to YHWH.

"The name of YHWH is forever, to all generations." -Psalm 135:13

"I cause the name of YHWH to be remembered in all generations, so that the people praise you forever and ever." -Psalm 45:17
This isn't just something for believers in the past. It is also for today and forever.

"Everyone who calls upon the name of YHWH shall be saved." -Romans 10:13, Joel 2:32
Do we want deliverance? It's time to start calling on YHWH.

Exodus 20:7 - one of the ten commandments is to not use the name of YHWH in vain, do you know what the means? | Land of Honey

"I have come in my Father's name." -John 5:43
The name of YHWH was a central part of the Messiah's time on earth.

"I shall put my name on the people of Israel, and I myself will bless them." -Numbers 6:27
YHWH's name will be on those who serve him. Don't we all want to be part of his family? And by the way, his name being placed on us is not to be considered legalistic or unnecessary or being out of touch with our culture. His name upon us is a blessing.

"The name of YHWH is a strong tower; righteous people run into it and are safe." -Proverbs 18:10
This speaks volumes! Are we running to his name? Are we responding righteously when we need protection?

"Honor YHWH for the glory of his name. Worship YHWH in the glory of his set-apartness." -Psalm 29:2
Is this something the body of the Messiah is doing? May he help us to see the glory of his name.

"You will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of YHWH!'" -Matthew 23:29, Luke 13:35, Psalm 118:26
This verse is not just about the Messiah not returning until people are crying out for him. He won't be coming back until there is widespread use of the name of YHWH.

"If you do not guard to do all the words of this Torah, to fear the esteemed and awesome name of YHWH your Elohim, then YHWH shall bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues." -Deuteronomy 28:58-59
Here is a passage talking about negative things happening if we don't esteem the name of YHWH. For too long believers haven't known his name or honored it. Using the name of YHWH is a simple step we can take away from 'extraordinary plagues' and disease.

"My works I do in my Father's name." -John 10:25
All those miracles and amazing things the Messiah did, were done in the name of YHWH. Let's not miss that!

"Some trust in chariots and horses, but we trust in the name of YHWH our God." -Psalm 20:7
Are we trusting in the ways of mankind and popular religion or are we putting stock in what Scripture teaches?

"The nations will fear the name of YHWH." -Psalm 102:15
How can those who aren't part of YHWH's people know his name if we don't use it? How can they learn to esteem the Living God if no distinction is made between YHWH and the gods of other nations? Use of his name should be so common that even those of other faiths would know it.

"From the rising of the sun to where it sets, the name of YHWH is to be praised." -Psalm 113:3
Everywhere and at all times the name of YHWH is to be exalted and glorified. This is not just for set-apart days or when the Messiah comes back. It's not just to be used in Israel or at houses of prayer. It is to be used wherever you are today.

"Guard them by the power of your name, the name you have given me." -John 17:11
The Messiah talked about YHWH's name being upon him. The name Yahusha means 'YHWH is salvation.' And he knew the name to be so powerful that it guards believers.

10 Times the Bible Talks About Clean Eating

Ten Passages in Scripture that Talk About Biblically Clean Eating | Land of Honey

The Bible has a lot to say about what we eat! From Adam and Eve being kicked out of Eden because of their consumption choices, to enumerating animals that shouldn't be eaten, to New Testament debates about eating with unwashed hands, food is a topic that comes up a lot. Here I want to focus on Biblically clean eating. The Creator gave us many delicious things to eat that he calls clean, while certain animals he forbids us to eat, calling them unclean. I use clean eating to mean eating in the way that Scripture instructs us to.

Ten Times the Bible Talks About Clean Eating:

1. Genesis 1:29

"I have given you every seed-yielding plant on the earth, and the fruit trees to you as food."

This is the second recorded thing that the Creator speaks following the creation of mankind. And it's instructions about eating!

2. Genesis 2:16-17

"And YHWH commanded the man saying, 'Eat of every tree of the garden, but do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for if you eat of it you will certainly die.'"

We know that Adam and Eve were not obedient to this instruction and as a result they were sent out of the paradisaical garden of Eden. In Eden they walked with YHWH; something they ate literally took them away from his presence.

3. Genesis 7:2

"Of the clean animals take with you seven pairs, a male and female, and of the unclean animals take two, a male and female."

The distinction of clean and unclean animals began way before the list of dietary instructions in Leviticus. Noah was instructed to take different amounts of clean and unclean animals on board the ark. This tells us that Noah and his family knew which types of animals were considered clean.

4. Genesis 9:3

"The living creatures I give to you for food. I have given them to you as I gave you the green plants."

Mankind is now allowed to eat meat. But wait a minute, what was that fuss about the clean versus unclean animals just a few chapters prior?  Is YHWH now saying that any animal is okay to eat? Let's not miss the catch here: as I gave you the green plants. Mankind was not permitted by the Creator to eat every single plant that grew on earth. They were restricted to plants that were green and bear seed, as well as the fruit trees. They did not consume every plant, just as we don't eat Kentucky bluegrass or poison ivy. In both cases of eating plants and animals distinctions are made.

5. Leviticus 11:2-8

"These are the living creatures which you eat: whatever has a split hoof completely divided, and chews the cud, you may eat. These you do not eat: the camel, the rabbit, the hare, the pig. Their flesh you do not eat, and their carcasses you do not touch. They are unclean."

This chapter in Leviticus plainly lays out which animals are forbidden as food. There is the guideline that the hoofs of animals need to be divided, and they need to chew the cud. But just to be doubly clear we are specifically told not to eat things like camels, rabbits, and pigs. It's interesting to me that eating something like camel or horse is very repulsive in Western culture, but most people think nothing of eating a pig. In many places in the Middle East that thinking is reversed as camel is considered food, but eating pig would be abhorrent. That abhorrence is how the entire list of unclean animals in Leviticus 11 is meant to be understood. If the Bible says not to eat something, then it shouldn't even cross our minds to do so.

If you're familiar with the Chronicles of Narnia you may remember that the characters eat meat on their adventures, but eating an animal that talks is anathema. When the giants serve a talking stag in The Silver Chair it is a major sign that something is wrong; and the true Narnians are horrified. Something similar I've noticed in the dietary laws of Scripture is that the unclean animals tend to be much smarter creatures than the clean. Cows are clean but their intelligence doesn't touch that of unclean horses. Pigs are incredibly smart and I've heard many stories of small-scale farmers being unable to butcher them after looking them in the eyes. My dog is much more intelligent than clean sheep and goats. I'm not saying clean animals don't have their own strengths, but it really interesting to think about.

6. Leviticus 11:9

"Of the fish in the water you may eat any that have fins and scales. If a water creatures does not have fins and scales it is an abomination."

Fish like trout, perch, salmon, whiting, tuna, sea bass, pollock, halibut, and mahi mahi all have scales and fins and are permissable to eat according to Scripture. Fish without fins and scales (such as catfish, swordfish, and monkfish) we are told are unclean for us to eat. Crustaceans such as lobster, crab, clams, and shrimp are also off-limits according to Scripture since they don't have fins or scales.

7. Daniel 1:8

"Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king's food."

Why would Daniel reject the food he was provided with in captivity? Because he was being served animals that we are commanded not to eat! He wasn't just being picky, he knew that if he ate those things it would be polluting and defiling to him and a dishonor to YHWH.

8. Daniel 1:15

"At the end of ten days their appearances looked better than all the young men who ate the portion of the king's food."

Fitting with Biblical dietary instructions, Daniel asked the chief eunuch if he and three others could eat only vegetables. The chief was initially concerned that this diet would provide inadequate nutrition for Daniel and his companions and didn't want to get in trouble with the king, but he agreed to let them try this for ten days. At the end of this time the difference was so noticeable, and Daniel and his friends looked so much better than those eating a Biblically unclean diet that the chief put everyone on same diet as Daniel. Don't miss that eating a Biblically clean diet made Daniel and his companions stand out in the crowd. The difference in their health was noticeable!

9. Acts 10:14

"I have never eaten food that was unclean."

Peter made this statement probably ten years after the Messiah ascended into heaven; he was still following Scripture's instructions for how to eat. This tells us that all the meals he shared with Yahusha were clean. It also tells us that Peter and the rest of the disciples and leaders didn't think these commandments were done away with.

10. 1 Corinthians 10:31

"Whether you eat or drink, do it to the glory of YHWH."

Our choices about what we eat can glorify YHWH - or not. Here is a New Testament verse that calls for us to eat in a way that honors YHWH. It doesn't say that anything we eat glorifies him. It is a reminder that in every thing we do - including how we nourish ourselves - we should work to be obedient to Scripture's instructions.

Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself by eating the king's meat. -Daniel 1:8 + clean eating in Scripture | Land of Honey

These are just ten passages where the Bible talks about clean eating, but there are many more. Throughout Scripture we can see the foods eaten by YHWH's people fit into the clean category (think of Isaac craving goat meat, Jacob making lentil stew, Abigail taking David lamb, roasted grains, and figs, the lovers in Song of Songs talking about pomegranates and apples, the Messiah serving bread and fish, the Israelites desiring quail). In Isaiah 65:4 YHWH himself is lamenting about disobedient people who "provoke me continually...who eat the flesh of pigs." We don't have to participate in the offense of unclean eating! He gives us instructions on how to eat. And we can see from the above stories that there is blessing for us when we live out those instructions.

How Scripture Says to Handle Anxiety

What does the Bible say about how to handle feelings of anxiety or panic? Many people write off concerns about anxiety and depression by simply instructing to just pray about it, when Scripture gives more insight and direction than that! We are going to take a look at what the Bible says, so that we can know how to handle anxious feelings.

Caroline Leaf says, "When God said he gave you a sound mind he wasn't joking." But what do you do when you're not feeling that? It's no secret that anxiety and depression have skyrocketed in recent years. And obviously, life is stressful and sometimes our concerns can feel overwhelming. It's normal to feel that way sometimes, but if we don't know how to handle anxiety and depression that can be a vicious cycle to try and break free from. So what do we do?

Did you know that Scripture tells us exactly how to deal with this?

"Do not worry at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to YHWH." -Philippians 4:6

"Don't worry about it," That's definitely easier said than done, but when Paul said this he meant it. Mentally running through 'what ifs' and worst-case-scenarios does absolutely nothing beneficial for us. It's a miserable way to spend time and it's definitely a downward spiral of negativity that's hard to get out of. So how do we stop this when we're worried? Take a look at the rest of the sentence: start praying and be thankful!

If you're in a bad situation, pray about it and ask YHWH to help you get through this in a healthy way. Ask him to transform your thinking so you can look at things from his perspective. Ask him to show you what he's doing in this and in you. Thank him for his promise to work all things together for good. Praise him for his faithfulness. Pray that others would have their eyes opened to truth through this. Ask him to help you trust in him and have peace in this.

And don't miss the "with thanksgiving" factor. Start thinking about what you do have to be thankful for...and get really specific with the details. Start with small things like seeing flowers growing outside or wearing your favorite top, and go from there. When you're having a bad moment this is a great reset, reminding you that while you may have had a rough shift at work or bad ten minutes your life isn't bad. There are good things. Literally count your blessings by making a list to look over when it's hard to remember.

"And the peace of YHWH, which surpasses all understanding, shall guard your hearts and minds through the Messiah." -Philippians 4:7

Maybe you're skeptical about prayer being helpful or don't see a point in mentally enumerating things to be thankful for. That's okay. YHWH's peace goes right on over our understanding. It might not make sense, but thanks to the Messiah, that's how it works. I like the bit about this peace guarding us. This compounds. Start praying and being thankful when you don't feel like it, and peace will come in and you will be better protected for next time something stressful comes up.

"Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is righteous, whatever is clean, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report, if there is any uprightness and if there is any praise - think one these." -Philippians 4:8

Literally. Do this. Think about good and lovely things. Happy family memories. Visiting a beautiful garden. Think about the dreams you have for your life. Memorize an encouraging verse. Make up plans for a dream home or vacation. Remember your time at a beautiful lake or in the mountains. Scripture tells us that we need to take our minds off the negative and sad thoughts and replace them with good things. Don't just take a two minute prayer break and go back to focusing on the difficult or disappointing. Work to reroute your focus to righteous and clean things. Fill your mind with Biblical truth. Maybe you make a list of things to turn to. You could read a favorite book or watch a happy movie. The things you direct your thoughts to absolutely affect your emotional state.

"And what you have learned and received and heard and saw in me, practice these, and the YHWH of peace shall be with you." -Philippians 4:9

So all the stuff we just went over? Put that into practice, even when you're not feeling down or anxious. Think of things that you're thankful for from each day. Pray continually. Ask YHWH to help you have a grateful heart. Make it a point to find encouragement and peace in Scripture.  Don't inundate yourself with garbage from television or toxic people, instead let your thought life be filled with the righteous and the lovely.

Try these things and see YHWH work in your life!
