New Music and a Giveaway From Teshuva!

Last week I had the pleasure of getting to hear Teshuva's new album Return. I first discovered the band about a year ago and have really enjoyed the whimsical praise and worship music they make from a Messianic perspective. Inspired by Daniel chapter nine, Return is meant to inspire a return to the ways of YHWH. Their sound has expanded on their first full-length album; it has a familiar worship background, blended with bits of electric, folksy, and indie sounds to keep things fun and upbeat. You can tell they enjoy themselves while singing and playing! Each song is beautifully written with lyrics packed with Scripture.

Return will be released this Tuesday but see below for your chance to win a digital copy!

*Congratulations Ronda for winning a free download of Return! Thanks to everyone who participated!

Teshuva's guitarist and singer Sam was kind enough to answer a few questions for me.

Tell us who's who in the band…
Caleb- Oldest brother and sound guy
Sam- Married to Angela, firefighter as his day job, sings and plays guitar
Angela- Mother of two handsome boys, sings and plays almost every instrument she can get her hands on
Lisa- Keys and horse riding if the band needs it:)
Jonathan- Baby brother, Paramedic by day, bass player for the band by night

How long have you been a band?
Since Sam and Angela married in 2010. We have been leading worship independently for quite some time.

How would you describe your style of music?
Creative Worship

How did you come to be Messianic? (or what you would call your faith)
Long process for both of our families. The Spears started looking into the Hebraic roots of the faith when God spared Caleb’s life through the hands of a Jewish Doctor.

Is there a concept behind the new album, Return?
Teshuva is the Hebraic word for “repentance or return”. It is based off Daniel 9 where Daniel as a righteous man repents for the shortcomings of His nation. We believe we need to have a spirit of humility as we repent for our own shortcomings. Judgement begins at the house of God.

Tell us about the album's artwork…
Paleo Hebrew from Daniel chapter 9, the part where it states "we have sinned, committed iniquity, acted wickedly and rebelled.” We had to memorize this chapter in Homeschooling when we were growing up. My Dad said he felt it was our families verse (felt kind of depressing back then but God had a calling on our life:) The Hebrew is covered by a satellite picture of the world. It represents the plan God has for humanity; Creation, the fall, redemption, marriage to the Lamb and the Kingdom of Heaven. The colors represent the Churches diversity of backgrounds yet the same plan for all of us. The arrow through the word “Return" is an indian symbol for war. Unfortunately the rejection of the message of repentance and returning to the ways of God could bring exposure to judgement.

It's a close call, but I think my favorite song is Coastlands. What is the story behind this song?
Each track on the album represents a stop in the pilgrims progress journey of Repentance. One of the stops on this journey is a realization that there is a physical land the Father loves. Jeremiah 31 states He will gather His people from the four corners of the earth back to their native homeland. I believe He is keeping His promise.

Do you have a favorite song from this album?
Cowgirls and Cowboys. A blast to play. Everyone seems to join in and its a call to the inner Navy Seal in all of us. This journey is not an easy one. Pony Up. Let's ride!
